Michigan State earns commitment from 2027 three-star safety Ty'ire Clark
The New Jersey DB pledged to the Spartans while he was on a spring visit. He breaks down his decision.
The Michigan State football program is adding to its 2027 recruiting class, as three-star New Jersey safety Ty'ire Clark announced his commitment to the Spartans on Saturday.
“I chose Michigan State because of the great culture and the true love from everyone,” Clark told Spartans Illustrated. “Coaches and players usually say stuff you just wanna hear, but they don’t do that to each other here. Everyone acts and does exactly what they say and I love that. Another reason is also the atmosphere and how much everyone supports and loves sports at Michigan State.”
Clark's pledge to the Spartans happened while he was in East Lansing for a spring visit over the weekend.
The most recent visit allowed Clark to get to see the campus and facilities and connect with many people within the MSU football program.
“I got to do a lot,” Clark said about the spring visit. “I got to go out to dinner with some of the coaches and players, I got to sit in meetings, visit the freshmen apartments, go see the stadium, meet important people and more.”
Clark also visited MSU in January, which is when he was re-offered by new head coach Pat Fitzgerald. Clark was previously offered a scholarship from the Spartans under then-head coach Jonathan Smith in November of 2025. Safeties coach James Adams was the person who originally offered Clark last fall, and Adams was retained by Fitzgerald on the new staff.
Clark's relationship with Adams continued to grow from there, and it was clear to him that he was a priority for Michigan State.
The Saint Peter's Preparatory School (Jersey City, New Jersey) standout will play under Fitzgerald (“Coach Fitz”), Adams, defensive coordinator Joe Rossi and the rest of the staff when he arrives at Michigan State in 2027.
“My relationship with everyone on the staff is amazing,” Clark noted. “ I love Coach Fitz and his energy — not just toward me but to everyone, and he makes others treat everyone great, too. So I would say my relationship with the whole coaching staff is amazing and they have fully earned my trust and also respect.”
Clark will return to MSU for an official visit during the weekend of May 29 through May 31. This will be the only official visit he takes as he has shut his recruitment down after pledging to the Spartans.
“To be honest Im just looking forward to seeing what being a Spartan feels like and just learning more about the school and history,” Clark said about the upcoming official visit. “I will not go on any visits to any other schools. I am fully locked in (with MSU).”
In addition to Michigan State, Clark earned scholarship opportunities throughout his recruitment from Penn State, Boston College, Cincinnati, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, James Madison, Connecticut, Temple, Charlotte, Jacksonville State and others.
The Rivals/On3 Industry rankings currently list Clark as the No. 969 prospect overall, No. 105 safety and No. 26 recruit in New Jersey in the 2027 class. According to 247Sports Composite rankings, meanwhile, Clark ranks as the No. 1,115 player nationally, No. 112 safety and No. 28 player in the state of New Jersey.
The 5-foot-11, 197-pound Clark projects as a safety at the college level. According to NJ.com, Clark recorded 79 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, a half-sack and three interceptions (including an interception returned for a touchdown) as a junior for Saint Peter's Prep. He also returned a kickoff return for a touchdown. Clark helped lead the Marauders to an 8-3 record and a playoff win in 2025.
“I would say Im a very smart safety that could do it all,” Clark said when asked to describe his game. “Like Coach Adams says, I am a ‘Swiss army knife.’ I feel like I'm amazing at being over top and making a play on the ball and also being able to help in the run game. Im definitely a safety that could break down a play and anticipate it.”
Michigan State continues to build its 2027 class under Fitzgerald, general manager Bryan Gasser and the rest of the staff. Clark is the first defensive player to commit to the Spartans' 2027 class. With Clark's commitment, MSU's 2027 class has grown to five total commitments as of press time. Clarks joins three-star offensive tackle Jack Carlson, three-star quarterback Eli Stumpf, three-star offensive lineman Grant Adloff, and three-star running back Savior Owens.
For Clark, he has found the best program for him to develop as a football player and person. He feels like he is right where he belongs.
“Michigan State is my home and it will be for a long time,” Clark said. “I am here to stay! Go Green!”
