No. 5 seed Michigan State loses to No. 4 seed Oklahoma in Norman, 77-71
The MSU women's basketball team had a valiant effort against OU, but fell short. Full recap here.
In a clash of offensive titans, the No. 5-seeded Michigan State women's basketball team saw its 2025-2026 season come to an end on Sunday night, falling to the No. 4-seeded Oklahoma Sooners, 77-71, in a fast-paced battle at the Lloyd Noble Center (OU's home court in Norman).
Entering the game, both teams were known for their ability to push the tempo, and the opening minutes did not disappoint. While Michigan State looked to exploit the Sooners' transition game, the Oklahoma defense proved to be a formidable wall, particularly in how it neutralized the Spartans’ primary playmakers.
First Half:
The game began at a blistering pace, with both squads trading baskets before the crowd could even settle in. Oklahoma’s defense showed its teeth early, forcing four Michigan State turnovers within the first three minutes of play. Despite the chaotic start and the reputation of the OU defense, the Spartans stayed aggressive and survived the start to end the first quarter tied 19-19.
The second quarter saw the Spartans settle into the track-meet atmosphere and take control. Michigan State’s perimeter shooting began to click, answering Oklahoma’s interior scoring. However, the Sooners began to implement a defensive scheme specifically designed to eliminate Kennedy Blair’s ability to drive and dish. By cutting off Blair’s lanes to the basket — a foundational element of the MSU offense — the Sooners forced the Spartans into low-percentage shots.
