EXCLUSIVE: Anton Bonke found his fit inside Michigan State basketball’s returning core
Bonke details his MSU visit, his conversations, and why the Spartans felt right from the start
Every player who was expected to be part of this season’s Michigan State men's basketball team showed up during Anton Bonke’s recruiting visit, and they didn’t just make an appearance - they stayed, they talked, they hung out, and they gave him a real look at what Michigan State actually is right now.
That part stuck in Bonke's mind and was a big part of why he chose to continue his basketball path in East Lansing.
“Just the fact that all the present guys were there on my visit,” Bonke told Spartans Illustrated during a brief phone call in between pick-up games out in California. “They were all there during my visit and I got to meet each and every one of them. No other school has done that. With the transfer portal, it’s very rare to see a program with that many players returning. So that’s what made this special, for sure.”
According to Bonke, his recruitment wasn’t a pitch built on what could be, it was a room full of players showing him what already is - a roster that believes it has something.
