Coen Carr, Jaxon Kohler power Spartans in victory over Oakland
MSU’s veterans set the tone, headlined by Carr’s career day.
Michigan State and Oakland met for the 24th time since 1998 on Saturday afternoon at Little Caesars Arena, continuing a holiday-season matchup that has taken on a life of its own across part of the state.
While the Golden Grizzlies once again proved to be a stubborn and physical opponent, the Spartans maintained their perfect record in the series with a 79–70 victory.
It’s difficult to label the matchup a true rivalry given Michigan State’s undefeated history against Oakland, but the competitiveness and mutual respect between the programs are unmistakable.
That edge comes directly from the sidelines, where the coaching philosophies on both sides consistently elevate the game beyond a typical non-conference contest.
For Michigan State, veteran leadership once again made the difference.
