Jaxon Kohler harps on Michigan State's slow start against Colgate
Kohler analyzed the Spartans slow burn win over the Raiders
Michigan State men’s basketball began its regular season last night in a recognizable fashion - with a slow start against Colgate, from the Patriot League. No Spartan player ended the first half in double digits as MSU went into the locker room only leading by three, 37-34.
Senior forward Jaxon Kohler saw the court for 15 minutes in the first half against the Raiders, netting five points and grabbing four rebounds. As a self-proclaimed “psycho” on the court, Kohler was not happy with these numbers.
“I was kind of behind in terms of energy and a little bit of conditioning,” Kohler admitted. “They threw in some things there that I wasn’t one hundred percent on in the coverage. It was a bad part on me to not step up and fix that. I think (in) the first half, I was just trying to figure out (how to calm) down and (realize) they were making this a really good game.”
Afterwards, MSU head coach Tom Izzo harped on his veteran players, including Kohler, stating that he felt they let the team down with their play in that first half.
Following Izzo's lead, Kohler also noticed he needed to be better in order to put the Raiders away in the second half. Fellow veteran Jeremy Fears Jr. shared flat out that he did not do his job in the first half.
