Breaking down Michigan State players that are ascending and who could tumble after Week One's victory over Western Michigan
It’s too early to judge at a macro level how good this Michigan State team is based on the Spartans' 23-6 victory over Western Michigan on Friday night, but there were plenty of takeaways to dissect. In the new(ish) transfer portal era, Week One of the season can be unpredictable, which makes the anticipation to see the team play for 60 minutes that much more tantalizing.
With that in mind, he are a few MSU players we are monitoring in the Spartans Illustrated Stock Report ahead of the Spartans' Week Two matchup with Boston College.
WR Omari Kelly - Stock up
Kelly lived up to the hype that’s followed him since spring practices, delivering an impressive Michigan State debut on Friday night against the Broncos. The senior transfer from Middle Tennessee State (and previously Auburn) showcased a little bit of everything, finishing with seven receptions for 75 yards to lead the way for the Spartans in both categories.
Quarterback Aidan Chiles had a strong connection with Kelly throughout the night and he now represents a dangerous combination alongside fellow wide receiver Nick Marsh on the outside. Their reliability in the Spartans' offense will be a big part of the the team sustaining success.
