MSU Uniforms: It's all green for Youngstown State
Green helmets, green jersey, green pants
After a big double-overtime win against Boston College, the Michigan State University football team rounds out their non-conference slate with a home game against Youngstown State on Saturday, Sept. 12. A third straight home game for MSU, the Spartans have their pick at what uniform they’d like to wear.
After two surprise uniform combinations in the first two games, the Spartan faithful were relaxed this week, expecting a more “classic” uniform choice for the FCS opponent. The majority of uniform conversation on MSU social media this week predicted a green/green/white combo, which is known as the normal or classic look for MSU football.
Unveiled on social media Thursday evening, the Spartans did announce a classic combo, though not quite what was expected: MSU will be wearing all-green against Youngstown State on Saturday.
The green helmet contains a white Greek key stripe and a white facemask, and the Spartans will be wearing green jerseys and green pants.
This uniform combo comes as a bit of a surprise, as in the past, the all-green look has been informally reserved for rivalry games or Senior Day, or a big night game. The Spartans and Penguins play at 3:30 Eastern time on Saturday.
This marks the third unique uniform for MSU through three games this season, after last week’s brand new white-black-white combo. They last went all-green in the last game of the 2024 season, albeit with a thin white striped helmet with the Block S. MSU has not worn this exact combination (with this stripe and facemask) since the uniform redesign in 2023.
