Where Michigan State's 2026 Recruiting Class Stands: Recap and remaining needs
Reviewing Michigan State's current 2026 recruiting class and examining remaining needs based on intel.
With the Michigan State football team currently in the midst of its first of two bye weeks during the 2025 season, now is a good time to recap where things stand in Michigan State's 2026 class and to examine the Spartans' remaining needs.
Michigan State earned commitments from the majority of its class in the month of June (and one in July) following official visits. With most of the class already committed ahead of the 2025 football season, the Spartans have been able to pick and choose how to fill out the remainder of their class and things have been relatively quiet on the recruiting trail. However, MSU will make some additional moves ahead of early signing day in December.
MSU's 2026 class currently ranks 27th overall according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, and 29th in the country according to the Rivals Industry rankings. The Spartans rank eighth in the Big Ten on both services.
Let's start with reviewing the current 2026 commits. MSU has 23 total commitments (22 scholarship players and one preferred walk-on) as of press time. Each prospect is listed below, along with their school, town/state, commitment date, rankings and other notable offers.
Note: The preferred walk-on commit is in-state athlete Jack Lansing III out of Hartland High School. Lansing committed to the Spartans on May 1, 2025. He also had a PWO offer from Pittsburgh.

He is coming off of an unofficial visit with the Longhorns and is working to set up an official visit with Texas. He may make other visits as well. Meanwhile, Hodge will return to East Lansing on Oct. 25 when Michigan State hosts rival Michigan. The Spartans will have to work to keep Hodge in the class, but he remains solidly committed to the Spartans as of now.

Remaining 2026 needs:
As mentioned, with 23 commits (22 scholarship players) already, Michigan State does not have many remaining needs for the 2026 cycle. Of course, a lot can happen before the early signing period opens in December, and it's certainly possible that not all of the current commits sign with MSU. But as things currently stand, there are only a couple of positions in which the Spartans need to still target.
