Driver's Seat: MSU Hockey top of the Big Ten standings

MSU controlled the game Saturday in Detroit, and now the Spartans control their own destiny toward a third consecutive Big Ten championship.

On Jan. 14, 2026, I wrote about what Michigan State would need over the stretch run to move from fourth in the Big Ten standings to first, as the Spartans chased a third straight Big Ten championship. I projected that an 11–3 finish – driven by improved shooting efficiency, better conversion of offensive opportunities, and more consistent depth scoring – could be enough, particularly with six remaining games against the three teams ahead of them in the standings.
