Film Room: Breaking down Nick Sheridan's offense

Some initial thoughts on what Sheridan's offense might bring to MSU

With Michigan State's expected hiring of Alabama's Nick Sheridan as offensive coordinator, let's jump into the film room to get a better understanding of what Sheridan may bring to East Lansing as a play-caller.

On the whole, I am relatively sanguine (editor's note: optimistic or positive) about the hiring of Sheridan as offensive coordinator. I think his youth and tutelage under Kalen DeBoer at multiple stops will pay dividends on the field and on the recruiting trail, and I think his offensive design will provide enough of an architecture and framework for offensive success at MSU.

Note that the below video breakdowns focus on Sheridan's time as offensive coordinator at Indiana in 2021, when the Hoosiers took on the Spartans.

While Sheridan most recently called plays for Alabama in 2024 before transitioning to co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach for the Crimson Tide in 2025, it made more sense to review Sheridan's time at Indiana because he will inherit Alessio Milivojevic as his starting quarterback at Michigan State.

While Milivojevic is athletic and can make plays with his feet - and while he certainly projects to have a better career than Jack Tuttle (Indiana's starting quarterback in the 2021 game being reviewed) - Milivojevic is much more of a pocket passer than Alabama's Jalen Milroe was in 2024.

Sheridan is known to adapt his offenses to his personnel.
