Take It Outside: No. 2 Michigan State Hockey at No. 5 Penn State
The next two weekends for MSU Hockey will determine its chances to win a third straight B1G Championship
Since outlining what the Spartans needed to do to put themselves back in position to contend for the Big Ten championship, No. 2 Michigan State has delivered — going 4–0 with road sweeps at Wisconsin and at home against Minnesota.
It’s a strong start to the stretch run, but with 10 games remaining, it’s also just the beginning. Much like the critical middle eight minutes of a football game, the next two series will likely define Michigan State’s championship path.
Before playing No. 1 Michigan next weekend, the Spartans head to State College, Pennsylvania, for a pivotal series against No. 5 Penn State. The matchup features one game indoors and one outdoors and comes with real consequences in the Big Ten race.
Michigan State currently sits one point behind Penn State and Michigan, who are tied atop the standings, and will be looking to complete a season sweep of the Nittany Lions after an electric series back in November.
